The all-new Subaru Outback appeared before the world public on the podiums of the international New York Auto Show on April 17, 2019. The car will go on sale in the U.S. market in the fall and will reach showrooms of domestic dealerships by the end of this year. The novelty is a full-fledged sixth generation, not another restyling. It has a seriously modified technical stuffing, more spacious interior, additional options and slightly retouched design. Despite the change of generation, the car has not received any cardinal changes. The eye-catching feature is the modified headlamp. It received a different backing, colored sections of the direction indicators and other blocks of focusing lenses. The radiator grille is slightly reduced in size and has lost its chrome decoration, while the protective trim of unpainted plastic, on the contrary, now occupies most of the front bumper. Instead of the round fog lamps, the front bumper is now equipped with more compact LED fog lamps.
Subaru Outback is a five-passenger station wagon with increased cross-country ability. With the change of generation, it has grown a bit in size. It has 4860 mm in length, 1680 mm in height, 1855 mm in width and 2745 mm between the axles. Ground clearance is pretty solid by the standards of this class and is as much as 220 millimeters. The basis of the car is the new modular platform SGP. Like its predecessor it has a completely independent architecture – McPherson struts in front and multilever system behind. The new body has completely redesigned: shock absorbers, springs, anti-roll bars, levers, and both subframes.
Not only the interior became more spacious, but also the trunk. With folded backrests of the rear sofa the car is able to provide up to 2144 liters of free space. In this position, you get practically a flat area with a length of 1980 mm.
As well as the coplatform Legacy, Subaru Outback will get two opposites petrol fours. Base versions will get an atmospheric 2.5-liter unit. It has two camshafts and a variable valve timing system. Such power unit produces 184 horsepower and 239 Nm of torque. For fans of active driving a 2.4-liter turbocharged four is offered. It is capable of developing 263 horsepower and 376 Nm of torque. The transmission, in both cases, is the proprietary Lineartronic variator and a permanent all-wheel drive system with traction vectoring technology.
The Subaru Outback boasts a wide range of optional equipment. The car is equipped with nine airbags, automatic braking and blind spot monitoring system, parking assistant, climate control, leather interior, advanced multimedia center, ventilation and heated seats, electric trunk lid, Harmon-Kardon audio system and radar cruise control with lane-keeping system.
